Last year the Estonian electricity distribution system operator Elektrilevi invested 88.5 mln euros in assuring and increasing quality, building 253 substations and 2,699 kilometers of new lines, reports company.

A record amount or 2,500 kilometers of new aerial cable was built in the low voltage network, as a result of which the network became more weatherproof, mainly in counties, spokespeople for Elektrilevi said. The share of weatherproof lines is now 61 percent in Elektrilevi's network.

A total of 16,872 failures were recorded in Elektrilevi's network which is 13% less than in 2015. In the past few years the number of failures in the company's network has dropped by about a third.

According to CEO Tarmo Mere, Elering has two main goals to correspond with customers' expectations -- to guarantee quality power supply and low price.

In 2016 Elektrilevi installed 96,000 remote read meters for customers, which marked the end of a four-year project in the course of which nearly 625,000 remote read meters were installed.
