Cold weather almost doubles demand for natgas in Estonia

Cold weather in the first half of this week almost doubled the consumption of natural gas in Estonia on individual days compared with last week. reports LETA/BNS.

Consumption peaked on Tuesday, when roughly 3.9 million cubic meters of gas moved to consumers via the transmission system run by the state owned TSO Elering. On both Monday and Wednesday the amount was 3.3 mln cubic meters.


Last week, when weather was considerably warmer, gas consumption ranged from 1.9-2.2 mln cubic meters on individual days.


According to the national weather service, the average air temperature in mainland Estonia was between minus 10 and minus 14 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. A week earlier, on Feb. 1, it had been around zero degrees.


The absolute record of daily gas consumption in Estonia is 6.8 mln cubic meters.
