Latvia and Lithuania "speak with one voice" when it comes to issues of synchronization of the Baltic power grids with Poland, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said LETA/BNS.

Skvernelis told after meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis, Speaker of the Saeima Inara Murniece and President Raimonds Vejonis that the neighboring country supported the grids' synchronization with the Western European system via Poland.

"There are no discussions and disagreements here. We understand that this is a joint, strategic project, and we spoke about its significance not only for the Baltic states, but for the European Union as well," the Lithuanian prime minister said by phone from Riga.

"As to the project's strategic presence and financing, and the direction in which that interconnection has to be done, I think we are really speaking with one voice here. My colleague (Kucinskis) is going to Warsaw in the near future and this issue will be discussed there too," he said.

The three Baltic countries have agreed to disconnect their grids from the so-called BRELL energy ring, which also includes Russia and Belarus, by 2025. Lithuania backs synchronization via Poland, but Estonia has raised the idea of synchronizing the grids through Finland.
