ILF Polska to serve as construction manager for undersea part of Balticconnector

The Estonian transmission system operator Elering AS and the Finnish company Baltic Connector OY signed an agreement with ILF Consulting Engineering Polska on Monday under which ILF Polska will act as the engineering, procurement and construction manager in the construction of the undersea section of the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia, informs LETA/BNS.

The Polish company will act as EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) manager for the construction of the 80 kilometer long undersea gas pipeline section between Paldiski, Estonia and Inkoo, Finland.


ILF Polska's scope of services under the contract includes setting out the design documentation, project management, contract management, managing procedures for services and deliverables, construction works management, commissioning and start-up support, Elering said.


The task will be carried out in collaboration with a subcontractor, the Australian company Subsea Engineering Associates Pty Ltd, for which this is the second offshore pipeline EPCM project in the Baltic Sea region.


The tender for the contract to build the gas interconnection is expected to be announced in the first half of 2017. Balticconnector will be taken into use by 2020.


The cost of the Balticconnector investment will be around 250 mln euros and 75 % of this amount will be co-funded from the European Union's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

The total lenth of interconnection will be approximately 150 kilometers. The undersea pipeline will have a diameter of 50 centimeters and the pressure of gas inside it will be up to 80 bars.
