Russia's Gazprom revises business tactic for Baltic states

Print versionRussia's natural gas concern Gazprom has officially sold its shares in companies operating trade and gas infrastructure in Lithuania and Estonia, however, its managers have opened new enterprises in Lithuania to operate under business conditions, said Mikhail Krutikhin, partner at Russian consultancy Rusenergy, informed LETA/BNS.

In his opinion, the European Commission has decided to drop anti-monopoly probe of Gazprom without significant sanctions due to elimination of many reasons behind its start.
In Krutikhin's words, mainly short-term gas acquisition contracts with sellers offering the best conditions at a specific moment will be concluded in the Baltic states in the nearest future.
EC and Gazprom are reportedly nearing an agreement on the anti-monopoly probe that was opened five years ago. According to foreign media, Eastern European countries may be unimpressed with the EC finding, as Russia may avoid a fine.
