Estonian power co looking for new trends at green technology idea competition

BC, Tallinn, 08.10.2016.Print version
– Specialists of Estonia's state-owned energy company Eesti Energia are evaluating projects pitched at Europe's largest green technology business idea competition ClimateLaunchpad that is taking place in Tallinn this weekend, looking for ideas that could be used to increase competitiveness, Eesti Energia representative said LETA.

"Eesti Energia's development plans march hand in hand with the European Union's climate targets," head of project management office and partner relations at Eesti Energia Kadi Steinberg said. "Each new technology adopted by us is more efficient and has a smaller environmental impact than its predecessor. We plan to increase the share of production based on alternative energy sources, including renewable sources, to as much as 40 percent of total production by 2020."

Adoption of new technological solutions could be a key factor in achieving such goals, therefore supporting clean technology start-ups should definitely be a part of the package that will help reach those ambitious goals, Steinberg said. Eesti Energia has created a process to collect and evaluate ideas that functions like a business development incubator. "We are pleased that the ClimateLaunchpad competition is taking place in Estonia, this gives us an opportunity to evaluate projects on the spot and search for ideas that might have growth potential in our company," she said.

Eesti Energia was a member of the jury that selected Estonian finalists in August and is evaluating the projects that made it to the European final this weekend.

ClimateLaunchpad was initiated by Climate-KIC, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology program to support sustainable growth.
