Eesti Energia announces tender for wind farm in Parnu County

BC, Tallinn, 23.09.2016.Print version
The state-owned Estonian energy group Eesti Energia has announced a tender for the design and construction of a wind farm in the Tootsi Suursoo area of the southwestern Parnu County, wites LETA/BNS.

To be installed in the wind farm are 46 turbines. Eesti Energia reserves the right to instal additionally six turbines in the facility that is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019, it appears from the tender announcement.

"Building new renewable energy capacities is one of Eesti Energia's strategic development directions. The Tootsi wind farm would be the largest wind farm in the Baltic region with up to 52 turbines, and its construction would help Estonia achieve renewable energy targets," told spokesman Eesti Energia Kaarel Kuusk.

The wind farm is expected to start producing electricity in 2019, Kuusk added. The size of the investment depends on the results of the tender and the investment decision can be made after the offers have come in, he said.

The nominal capacity of the wind farm could be around 150 megawatts, project manager Kristjan Piirsalu told.

The Tootsi wind farm would be laid out on exhausted peatlands in the Tootsi region of Parnu County. Eesti Energia started an environmental impact assessment for the facility in 2012.
