A quarter of natgas imported from Lithuania in August

In August 4.35 mln cubic meters of natural gas was imported into Estonia from Lithuania, which made up 25 % of total gas imports, writes LETA/BNS.

The gas imported from Lithuania by Estonian market participants can derive from different sources, including auctions of the Russian energy giant Gazprom, the transmission system operator Elering said. Last month Baltic Energy Partners, Eesti Energia and Eesti Gaas imported gas from Lithuania.


A total of 17.38 mln cubic meters of natural gas was imported into Estonia in August, almost 15% less than in the same month last year.


During the month 437.22 mln cubic meters of gas transited Estonia. The Incukalns underground storage facility in Latvia was filled to 48 % of capacity by the end of the month.

The price of natural gas on the Lithuanian exchange GET Baltic averaged 15.64 euros per megawatt-hour. The Finnish exchange Kaasuporssi had a comparable price of 16.46 euros per MWh. On the German GASPOOL the price fell 15% from the previous month to an all-time low of 12.22 euros per MWh.
