Q1 gas imports down 5% in Lithuania y/y

Lithuania imported 8,160 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of gas in the first quarter of this year, down by 5.1 % form the same period of 2015, writes LETA/BNS.

The weighted average price of imported natural gas was 20.22 euros per megawatt-hour in January-March, which is 23.1% less year-on-year, the National Commission for Energy Control and Prices said in a report of natural gas, writes LETA.


The natural gas system handled 14,950 GWh of gas in the first three months of this year, down by 1.9 % year-on-year. Gas transit grew by 5.7% to 7,480 GWh over the period, while transmission to Lithuanian consumers fell 8.5% to 7,470 GWh.


The commission said Klaipedos Nafta (Klaipeda Oil) degasified 5,090 GWh of gas in the first quarter of this year.


The amount of natural gas sold on the wholesale natural gas supply market dropped by 41.9% to 4,060 GWh. On the retail market, the amount of supplied gas increased by 13.6% to a total of 2,630 GWh over the period.


According to the report, the natural gas consumption in Lithuania was 7% lower in the January-June period y-o-y standing at 7,360 GWh.
