The latest 455-megawatt combined-cycle gas block at unit Nine of the Elektrenai power plant, which is operated by the Lietuvos Energija (Lithuanian Energy) holding, went offline on Thursday, with repairs expected to last until early August, reports LETA/BNS.

Lietuvos Energijos Gamyba (LEG) said via the Nord Pool market said that Unit Nine was unavailable due to technical issues with seals generator bearings.

"Due to the malfunction of the NordBalt power interconnection and the increase in electricity prices on the market, we had switched on the combined-cycle block early this morning. At about 10 a.m., we noticed interruptions of the generator bearings and oil leaks, therefore, halted the blocks' operations. This is not a major or dangerous error, however, repairs should preliminarily last until Aug. 4," told spokesman Valentas Neviera.

The average price in Nord Pool's Lithuanian bidding area on Thursday stood at 38.48 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), with expected climb to 67.29 euros on Friday.

The Lithuania-Sweden electricity link NordBalt went offline on Tuesday and should be under repairs until Saturday.

Unit Nine of the Lithuanian power plant was completed in the fall of 2012.
