The heat provider Fortum has decided to build its second district cooling plant in Estonia's second-largest city Tartu for 5.3 mln euros, the daily Eesti Paevaleht reports, cites LETA/BNS.

The company opened its first district cooling plant in May in Tartu and it cost 5.7 mln euros.

The company is also planning to build a district cooling plant in the western Estonian regional capital Parnu where Fortum's subsidiary is located.

"In other Baltic countries we are planning to build district cooling plants in Jelgava and Klaipeda. In the future it is possible that we will build plants in towns where Fortum has no other business," board chairman of Fortum Tartu, Margo Kulaots, told.

At present the customers of Fortum's first district cooling plant are the Kvartal shopping center and hotel Lydia in Tartu. In addition, the company is in talks with other bigger institutions in Tartu.

Consolidated revenue of Fortum Tartu last year totaled 29.8 mln euros.
