Lithuanian EnergMin wants faster development of LNG filling stations

Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis says that the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) filling stations in Lithuania and elsewhere in Europe is not fast enough and that decisions in principle will have to be taken on the so-called "blue corridors" in the country, informs LETA/BNS.

The minister said this to BNS after meeting with officials from the Dutch gas infrastructure company Gasunie.

"We discussed the development of blue corridors in Europe. They (Gasunie) think that it is going somewhat slowly and we also believe that the development should be faster," he told BNS by telephone from Amsterdam.

According the minister, the Dutch example shows that demand emerges once filling stations for LNG-powered trucks are built.

He noted that the EU provides support for such projects, but the state should contribute as well.

LNG stations could be potentially useful to a LNG reloading station that Klaipedos Nafta (Klaipeda Oil), the Lithuanian LNG terminal's operator, is building in Klaipeda.
