Litgas, LDT to import gas via Klaipeda LNG terminal in October

BC, Vilnius, 14.06.2016.Print version
Litgas and Lietuvos Duju Tiekimas (Lithuanian Gas Supply, or LDT) are the two of the three users of the Lithuanian natural liquefied gas (LNG) terminal have booked the terminal's capacities for a year in advance. The country's biggest gas user, fertilizer manufacturer Achema, has not booked the capacities yet but may do it anytime later, informs LETA/BNS.

"Other potential users may book the capacities for the upcoming gas year at any time. (...) This is what happened in February this year when LDT and Achema ordered a considerable amount of the LNG terminal's potential, which allows them to receive nearly all of the amounts of gas they need during the remaining gas year," Mantas Bartuska, CEO of Klaipedos Nafta (Klaipeda Oil), said in a press release.

Klaipedos Nafta said the capacities were booked by LDT for the period between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 – the company intends to degasify 425,100 megawatt-hours (about 70 million cubic meters) of gas. Litgas has booked them for the entire gas year from October 1 of 2016 to Sept. 30 of 2017 – the company intends to degasify 3.602 million megawatt-hours (about 303 million cubic meters) of LNG.

Achema's CEO Ramunas Miliauskas has said in an interview to BNS that the company would not book the terminal's capacities in advance, as signing of new LNG supply deals is not yet clear.

All three of the terminal's users buy LNG from Norway's Statoil. Litgas is the only company that has a long-term contact until 2024, while Achema and LDT have only concluded contracts with Statoil until October. Litgas buys about 350 million cubic meters of LNG via the terminal per year, LDT should purchase 300 million cubic meters until October, while Achema should buy about 700 million cubic meters.
