Lithuania makes it easier for foreign investors to get electricity

BC, Vilnius, 19.05.2016.Print version
It will be easier for foreign companies planning to invest in Lithuania to obtain an electricity connection after the government on May 18th approved a simpler procedure for connecting them to the power grid, informs LETA/BNS.

"These changes are designed to make Lithuania more attractive for investment and to shorten the length of time it takes to get connected to the electricity grid," Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis said during the Cabinet meeting.

"The draft is aimed at scrapping the requirement for legal entities to be established in Lithuania," he said.

The existing requirement for foreign companies to be established in Lithuania hindered them from getting an electricity connection.

One of Lithuania's lowest scores in the World Bank's Doing Business 2016 rankings was for "getting electricity", at 54th place among 189 countries. According to the report, last year it took 95 days on average to complete the procedure.
