In an interview with LETA, Economy Minister Dana Reizeniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers) points out that it is important for Latvia to agree on long-term gas cooperation with Lithuania.

The minister said that after her August visit to Lithuania, where she began discussions with officials on cooperation in the gas sector, talks on gas supplies to Latvia continue.

''We continue talks on supply prices, as we are not going to purchase gas for any price. At the same time, we do not want this to be a one-off deal, but long-term cooperation,'' she said.

Meanwhile, pointing out that the Latvia, Lithuanian and Estonian gas markets are quite small, the economy minister said that the Baltic countries could make joint gas purchases from countries like the United States, so that the final price of this gas is cheaper.

Reizniece-Ozola said that she intends to meet with the Lithuanian economy minister in the near future to sign a protocol of intent for gas supplies. ''This would be a political document, which will emphasize that the Klaipeda terminal is not just an important security infrastructure object, but an important commercial infrastructure object for the whole Baltic region,'' she added.
