Electricity prices in Lithuania fell by 12% as heat wave subsided

The average electricity price in the Nord Pool Spot Lithuanian bidding area on 17-23 August was EUR 45.54/MWh. Compared with the previous week, the price fell by 12%, informs LETA/ELTA.

Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid said that last week the country imported 66% of electricity consumed. Half of it was imported from Latvia, Estonia and Finland, while the rest – from third countries. Last week both units of Kaliningrad combined heat and power plant were operational and import from Kaliningrad grew by 14%.

 

The summer heat wave has subsided and electricity demand fell by 4.5% compared to the previous week. By a tenth more electricity was generated in Lithuania compared to 10-16 August. Wind generation grew by 50%, while Kruonis hydroelectric power plant generated by 37% more electricity.

 

International Latvia-Estonia interconnection capacity on 17-23 August was on average used at 90%, Lithuania-Latvia – 44%, Lithuania-Belarus – 49%.
