Renewable energy formed 16.7% Estonian total consumption in Q2

BC, Tallinn, 21.07.2015.Print version
The consumption of renewable energy in Estonia grew in the second quarter of the year 2015 and formed 16.7% of total electric energy consumption, while being 14.2% at the same time last year, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The total production of renewable energy in the second quarter was 346 GWh and the production grew by 17% in a year, announced Elering.

Wind power accounted for 44% of the total production of renewable energy in the second quarter and has grown year-on-year 36% to 154 GWh. Amounts paid for the support of wind energy grew by 41% compared to the second quarter last year, to 7.3 million euros.

Renewable energy production from biomass, biogas and waste formed 53% of all renewable energy production. From these fuels, 185 GWh of electricity was produced in three months; production increased as compared to last year's second quarter by 6%. Electricity produced from biomass, biogas and waste received in the second quarter 7.8 million euros of subsidies, 4% more than a year ago.

Hydroenergy production reached 8 GWh and subsidies 281,000 euros.

The number of recipients of subsidies for producing solar energy has increased by over two times to 259 producers in a year. 260 MWh of solar power was channel into the grid and got subsidies. Since micro-producers consume the majority of solar energy their produce, the general amount of electricity produced with solar panels is an estimated 4-5 times bigger.

Elering paid renewable energy support in second quarter for a total of 286 GWh. In monetary terms, the amount of subsidies for renewable energy grew by 19% to 15.4 million euros.

1.3 mln euros of efficient cogeneration subsidy was paid in the second quarter, the same as at the same time last year. The amount of electricity reached 39 GWH.
