Price of electricity could reduce by 5-7% in 2016 in Latvia

The average price of electricity in Latvia could reduce 5-7% in 2016, this according to CEO of Latvenergo Aris Zigurs in an interview with the LNT show "900 sekundes" today, cites LETA/Nozare.lv.

Construction of the Lithuanian-Swedish interconnection could be finalized between 2015 and 2016, which is why there could be a slight fall in prices. By connecting to a more powerful network, Latvia will have access to significantly cheaper energy from Sweden.

Zigurs also said that following liberalization of the electricity market on January 1, 2015, the company has to a certain extent ceased subsidizing electricity supply for households, and the price, as the market situation indicates, is fair – prices offered by various suppliers differ only by a hundredth of a cent.

Regardless of the increase in electricity prices, the consumption level remains the same.

As reported, after the electricity market for households was fully opened up on January 1 this year, electricity prices grew 15-30%.
