The fact that the German company E.ON Ruhrgas International GmbH (E.ON) wants to sell its stake in Latvijas Gaze (LG) does not mean that Latvia is losing German capital, said German Ambassador to Latvia Andrea Wiktorin during a press conference of the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, informs LETA.

She stressed that Latvia still has a lot of medium-sized companies, "but they are less discussed."

"It is important that these medium-sized companies operate in regions, furthermore, the activity of German investors in Latvia is higher than it may seem," said Wiktorin.

As reported, E.ON is planning to sell its stake in LG and to withdraw from the Baltic market altogether. Last year, the government theoretically considered the possible strategies in case E.ON decides to sell its LG shares.

At the moment, E.ON owns 47.2% of LG shares, Russia's Gazprom has a 34% stake, and Itera Latvija – 16%.
