The average electricity price in the Lithuanian bidding area was 32 EUR/MWh. The demand of electricity fell by 8% due to warmer weather and lengthening daylight. Compared to March last year, the price decreased by 23% in the Lithuanian market.

In March, almost 72% of the electricity consumed in Lithuania was imported. Import from Latvia, Estonia and Scandinavia increased by 20%, while import of electricity from Russia dropped by 41%.

In March the average electricity price in Sweden's SE4 trading zone was 26 EUR/MWh. The average electricity price in Finland fell by 11% to 29 EUR/MWh. The Olkiluoto 2 power plant worked throughout March, generating almost one third more electricity than in February, thus increasing supply and lowering the price in the Finnish market. The lower electricity price in Finland also influenced the average electricity price in Estonia, which experienced the 10% drop to 30 EUR/MWh.

"The average electricity price in the whole Baltic Sea region fell in March by single or even double digit percentage figures. It is noteworthy that the highest price for the month was in Poland, where on average the electricity price was one euro higher per megawatt-hour than in Lithuania," said Robertas Staniulis, head of the Litgrid Market Development Division.

From 6 to 12 April, the capacities of the Latvian-Estonian interconnection capacity was used on average 95%, the Lithuanian-Latvian interconnectors – by 82% and the Lithuania-Belarus capacity – by 20%.
