PM: Lithuania won’t build Visaginas NPP without Baltic partners

BC, Vilnius, 16.04.2015.Print version
Speaking to members of the press yesterday, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius denied reports that Lithuania may build the planned nuclear power station at Visaginas solo – without the participation of regional partners Latvia and Lithuania, reports LETA/ELTA.

"We can practically build anything, but what to do after that? No, we are certainly not considering or discussing carrying out this project out only with Hitachi, Butkevicius declared.

The local newspaper Verslo zinios has a news story today about Lithuanian officials launching discussion on the possibility of getting the job done in cooperation exclusively with Hitachi-GE, in a deal where the consortium takes a proportional number of shares, or Lithuania – 80%.

Verslo zinios comments in its report that "Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia formally continue to play the board game that is at an impasse, known as "Visaginas AES.""
