In March 2015, imports of natural gas to Estonia reached 58.7 million cubic meters; the gas bought by new gas market participants from Lithuania amounted to 10.6 million cubic meters, or 18.1% of total imports, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The remaining 81.9% of gas was imported by Eesti Gaas, Estonia's main grid company Elering announced.

The amounts of gas imported from Lithuania have grown rapidly since the end of last year, i.e. in March, OÜ Baltic Energy Partners, Reola Gaas AS, Eesti Energia AS and from the beginning of March, the new importer UAB Litgas imported gas from Lithuania.

In the first two months of this year, the total gas imports were below the same period of the previous year but in March, a slight increase of 0.7% took place, said Elering.

Between Latvia and Russia, 50.5 million cubic meters of gas was moving via the Estonian gas grid, which was by 24% less than at the same time last year.

The price of gas delivered to Estonia, based on Eesti Gaas price formula, was according to the estimate of Elering 29.58 euros per megawatt-hour on average.
