On Friday, January 30th, the first transformer, one of the most important parts of machinery for electricity connection with Poland, will arrive to Klaipeda Container Terminal. Over 7-meter-long transformer weighing 110 tonnes will be transported from Klaipeda to Alytus by a lorry on a twelve axle trailer on Sunday night, informs LETA/ELTA.

Transformers are crucial equipment for direct current converter station in order to connect Lithuania's electricity transmission system with the synchronous grid of Continental Europe.

A total of 8 transformers will be installed in the current converter station in Alytus district, 2 of them will be reserve transformers. The second transformer will arrive to Alytus the following week and the rest by mid-April.

LitPol Link will be the first major electricity connection between Lithuanian and Polish electricity infrastructure. It is projected that by the end of 2015 up to 500 megawatts of electrical current will flow through the connection.
