BC, Vilnius, 16.12.2014.Print version
On 16 December, the Seimas adopted amendments to the Law on the Market of Energy Resources aimed at increasing the amount of biofuel bought in the energy exchange in Lithuania, reports LETA/ELTA.

The amendments stipulate that heat and electricity generation companies that use biofuel will have to acquire at least 50% of the needed biofuel in the energy exchange.

Meanwhile, starting from 2016 all trade in biofuel will be conducted only via the energy exchange.

The law passed by a 98-2 vote with 16 abstentions.

Based on previous procedures, state regulated district heating producers had to purchase at least 10% of biofuel in the energy exchange. According to Baltpool energy exchange, 13% of biofuel will have been bought in the exchange in 2014.

A total of 160 participants are registered at the exchange.
