BC, Riga, 28.08.2014.Print version
The controversial proposal to introduce mandatory exam in physics and chemistry for high school students, will be implemented in two years, Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity) said, cites LETA/Nozare.lv.

High school students will have to take an exam in physics and chemistry in 2016, Straujuma said.

She explained that an agreement has been made with the Education and Science Minister Ina Druviete (Unity) that in 2016, all high school students will have to take a pilot exam in physics and chemistry.

Straujuma said that the results will be analyzed to determine what needs to be improved in the exam process. She also said that it is still undecided whether specialized education institutions, such as culture academies, should implement such an exam.

Straujuma also indicated that Druviete agreed that the contents of the current study material require improvements. Teachers should also undergo further education to increase their professional skills.
