Open Lecture with Nick Davies “Phone Tapping – News at Any Cost?” to take place at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga on May 21st at 17:00.

The British tabloid’s phone tapping scandal has had an unbelievable impact. Newsrooms have had no scruples whatsoever about invading citizen’s privacy.

Police officers and detectives have assisted journalists in gathering ‘news’ from private text messages, and later these same officers of the law have tried to cover up their actions. And politicians crouch in fear of media owner Rupert Murdoch.

Nick Davies broke the story and was accused of exaggerating. But he and The Guardian kept on, and it was proven that his story was far from an exaggeration- and actually the truth was worse. Nick Davies was awarded with the Paul Foot Award 2011 for the key stories in The Guardian about phone-hacking scandal.

Nick Davies is a British investigative journalist, writer and documentary maker. Davies has written extensively as a freelancer, as well as for The Guardian and The Observer. He has written numerous books on the subject of politics and journalism.

Listen to Nick Davies tell this story, and learn the consequences.
