The European Humanities University (EHU), which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, is still forced to remain in exile. EHU contributes to the preparation of young Belarusians for the future and holds out a hope that one day Belarusian society will be open to liberal and democratic values, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Azubalis says.

On June 5 he participated in the annual assembly of EHU Trust Fund donors and in the celebration of the 20th anniversary, reported BC the MFA.

"We do believe that these young people will be able to take their due part in the development of the society of their country towards the openness to the Western values," Azubalis said.

According to him, the University is based on respect for liberal education traditions, and is a meeting point for the best ideas and practices from both East and West. In this regard, EHU without doubt is one of the most important transatlantic activities, keeping European future of Belarus alive.

Therefore, the minister believes that it is necessary to continue to support this University in implementing its mission in exile until its return to Minsk.

"When we support EHU, we support positive changes in Belarus. It is our assured investment into the future of this society," Azubalis said.

Currently, more than 1800 students are enrolled in EHU. Most of them are citizens of Belarus.

EHU Trust Fund is the main channel for donor support to the University. Its purpose is to raise, accept, and make use of funds provided by donors to the University. EHU Trust Fund was set up at the initiative of the European Commission and the decision of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2008.
