School year starts for 138,330 children in Estonia

Print version138,330 pupils start their school year in Estonia on Wednesday in general schools while 13,520 children start first grade, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

In 2010, nearly 3,500 pupils less started school than last year when general schools had 141,800 pupils. On the other hand, there are nearly a thousand pupils more who started first grade.
Nearly 560 general education schools in Estonia open their doors today. No new schools were opened this year while 11 schools were closed.
According to the forecast of the education ministry, the number of pupils will fall for four more years and will then again reach last year’s level.
