Swedbank advises students and their families of Estonia to consider carefully necessity of taking student loans.

The bank is worried that the borrowing puts significant financial pressure on fresh graduates especially since currently state compensations decrease.

"Applying for student loans is easy and people often lend money without really needing to just because they are offered. Current people borrow just under 6,000 euros for studies over three years that must be returned over a six-year period in approximately 100-euro increments," Piret Suitsu from Swedbank's information division pointed out.

The maximum that may be borrowed is 1,900 euros per year.
