The next raise of the minimum wage for general education teachers in Latvia is planned on September 1, 2018, according to the timetable for pay rise to teachers prepared by the Education and Science Ministry, informs LETA.

The minimum monthly wage per standard workload of 30 hours a week will then increase by EUR 30 to EUR 710. A year after that, on September 1, 2019, the minimum wage might be raised to EUR 750. On September 1, 2020, it may be raised to EUR 790. The minimum wage will be increased further to EUR 830 on September 1, 2021, and to EUR 900 in 2022.

The additional financing required for the above pay rise in the general education sector up to 2022 is EUR 103.639 mln, with most of the required resources to be obtained as a result of the optimization of the school network.

Education and Science Minister Karlis Sadurskis told the press today that the minimum hourly wage will grow to EUR 10.7 by 2022 from the current EUR 5.67.

He also said that Estonia where the minimum monthly wage to teachers was EUR 1,010 per standard workload of 35 hours a week had been able to achieve this mainly due to the optimization of its school network.
