19,022 children are not registered with any school in Latvia

Print versionIn the academic year of 2016/2017, there are 19,022 who are not registered with any school in Latvia, according to the Latvian State Education Quality Service, reports LETA.

The majority of these children or 13,803 of the age or 8-18, and 961 children of the age of 5-6 are living abroad.
Also, 2,024 children of the age of 7-18 and 204 children of the age of 5-6 are citizens of other countries who have received residence permits in Latvia, but still mostly reside in their own country and obtain education there.
There are quite many children about which local governments have no information – 1,015 such children in 2016, growing from 624 children in 2015.
