Vejonis: Politicians need scientists' perspective when tackling complex issues

BC, Riga, 27.01.2017.Print version
To find answers and solutions to complex issues Latvia’s politicians need the perspective provided by scientists and analysts, President Raimonds Vejonis said at the opening of the 75th Annual Conference of the University of Latvia today.

The president said that since the restoration of its independence Latvia has achieved big progress in its development, but that its way to prosperity has not been without mistakes, which is why scientific discussions are necessary in Latvia.

Latvia can be proud of its scientists, who are helping to promote Latvia in the world, Vejonis said, urging scientists to step up cross-border cooperation.

“Latvia takes pride in its scientists that are working in foreign countries, especially if they do not forget about Latvia and build cooperation bridges,” the president said.
