Estonian Riigikogu adopts amendments to Private Schools Act

Estonian parliament (Riigikogu) on June 7th adopted changes to the Private Schools Act, according to which the state will continue to pay an operating subsidy to private schools until the end of 2019, informs LETA/BNS.

Private schools for students with special educational needs would be paid an operating subsidy until 2023, spokespeople for the parliament said.

 

The amendments were adopted with 61 votes against 27 votes and one abstention.

 

The operating subsidy that would be paid to private schools until the end of 2019 equals 75% of the average operating subsidy paid to schools in the respective area, but no more than 87 euros per student per month.

 

The present arrangement will be retained until the end of this year.
