Smallest teachers' wages to make EUR 680 in Latvia

Teachers' minimum monthly wage in Latvia will be raised from EUR 420 to EUR 680, or by 62% next academic year, starting on September 1, 2016, under a new pay system proposed by the Education and Science Minister Karlis Sadurskis (Unity), informs LETA.

The draft proposals provide for raising the monthly pay for teachers working 21 hours a week from EUR 420 to EUR 640, while for teachers working 40 hours a week the monthly wage will go up from EUR 798 to EUR 884.

 

For teachers with 3rd quality degree working 40 hours a week salaries will increase from EUR 859 to EUR 1,057, while for teachers with 4th quality degree working at state gymnasiums 40 hours a week and receiving 10% additional payments salaries will go up from EUR 1,029 to EUR 1,247.

 

Wages will also be raised for support staff like school librarians, speech therapists, career consultants and special teachers, as well as school administration, principals and their deputies.

 

For teachers working in nursery schools, wages will be raised by 25% under the scheme proposed by the education minister.
