Latvia wants to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in higher education

On April 20, 2016, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics received copies of letters of credence from the new Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Latvia, Javanshir Akhundov, informs LETA.

During the meeting, Rinkevics made note of the constructive dialogue at the highest level and said that further effort should be made to expand business cooperation. The Minister and the Ambassador concurred that it was important to develop cooperation between Latvia and Azerbaijan in the field of higher education and promote student exchanges.

 

Foreign Minister Rinkevics highlighted Latvia's interest in strengthening the EU-Azerbaijan relations and expressed support for a new Framework Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan.

 

Referring to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Minister expressed the view that the conflict should be resolved peacefully in accordance with universally recognised principles and provisions of international law including the principle of territorial integrity.

 

Javanshir Akhundov began his career with the diplomatic service of Azerbaijan in 1992. Prior to his posting as Ambassador to Latvia, Javanshir Akhundov served as Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
