90% of the asylum seekers who have been granted the necessary status to begin language courses at the Mucenieki refugee center are currently learning Latvian, Interior Ministry State Secretary Ilze Petersone-Godmane said during a Saeima Citizenship, Migration and Social Cohesion Committee meeting today, cites LETA.

She added that those six refugees who have arrived from Greece as part of the EU's refugee relocation plan have been taking intensive language courses with ''promising results''.

Overall, she said that those who are permitted to take the language courses are actively attending them, even though they are not obligatory for asylum seekers.
