BC, Tallinn, 21.03.2016.Print version
Edgar Savisaar, leader of the opposition Center Party and mayor of Tallinn, spoke about the organization of urban economy in Tallinn in a public lecture delivered at the Moscow State University on March 18th, cites LETA/BNS.

Savisaar spoke about the major projects that the authorities of Tallinn have carried out in recent years, such as the construction of municipal housing and launch of the system of free public transport. He also spoke about the steps made by Tallinn in obtaining the title of Green Capital of Europe, Taavi Pukk, spokesman for the Center Party, said in a press release.

The lecture, titled "Tallinn: Facing the Challenges and Problems of the 21st Century," attracted an attendance of more than 100 people, Pukk said.

The invitation to deliver a lecture was extended to Savisaar by Artur Demchuk, deputy head of the faculty of political science of the Moscow State University. The lecture that was initially due to be read in 2015 had to be postponed due to Savisaar's illness.

Savisaar has delivered lectures in Russian universities also before. On Nov. 29, 2011 he spoke before students of political science of the Moscow State University, whereas in November 2013 he delivered a public lecture at the University of St. Petersburg and in March 2014 at the Academy of Diplomacy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Savisaar, who is under investigation for alleged graft, is forbidden to leave his residence for longer than three days without permission from the body conducting criminal proceedings.

A spokesman for the Internal Security Service (ISS), Harrys Puusepp, has said the ISS permitted Savisaar to be away from home for longer than three days, including abroad. "The proceeding is in a stage where his travelling won't threaten it – evidence has been collected and the proceeding is about to be finished," the spokesman said.

On Tuesday a suspicion of accepting forbidden donations in a large amount on behalf of the Center Party was moved against Savisaar. The Center Party as a legal person was declared suspect in accepting forbidden donations in a large amount.

At the beginning of February Savisaar visited Switzerland to visit friends, according to the party's spokesman.
