BC, Riga, 01.02.2016.Print version
The local council of the eastern Latvian region of Kraslava has decided to close four schools in 2016 and 2017 as the number of students in the region has been decreasing in recent years, informs LETA.

On August 1, 2016, the local authority will close Kalniesi Elementary School in Kalniesi county, Skaista Elementary School in Skaista county and the Polish Elementary School of Count Plater in Kraslava. On August 1, 2017, the Kraslava council will close Sauleskalns Elementary School in the county of Kombuli.

The closure of Polish Elementary School, however, can be cancelled if the World Federation of Poles Abroad provides co-funding to the school.

The local authority of the western Latvian region of Saldus, meanwhile, will close two high schools next academic year, Zane Sproge, a representative of the Saldus Tourism, Information, Culture and Sports Center, told LETA.

One of the high schools to be closed in Saldus currently employs 42 teachers and the other one 57 teachers.
