A total of 22,360 teachers from 845 schools and preschools in Latvia will participate in educational workers' strike next week, informs LETA.

According to Edgars Grigorjevs, deputy chairman of the Council of the Trade Union of Education and Science Employees, the number of teachers signing up for the strike keeps growing.

Trade Union of Education and Science Employees' Chairwoman Inga Vanaga said that the strike was not just about money, it would be a protest against the government's attitude to teachers and education.

As reported, the Union of Education and Science Employees has decided to hold a one-day warning strike on November 27.

The union will put forward the following demands: allocation of EUR 9 million for improving the remuneration system for all those employed in education, especially in preschools and small schools, and, second, sufficient funding for higher education and science.
