BC, Riga, 11.11.2015.Print version
The Council of the Trade Union of Education and Science Employees in Latvia agreed today to organize a one-day warning strike, informs LETA.

The trade union concluded that most of the demands of the union had been rejected by the government.

Therefore the council of the union decided that teachers would go on a one-day warning strike on November 27.

The Education and Science Employees' Union will put forward the following demands: allocation of EUR 9 million for improving the remuneration system for all those employed in education, especially in preschools and small schools, and, second, sufficient funding for higher education and science.

The situation when money is taken from someone to be given to someone else is unacceptable, emphasizes the union.

The decision to call a strike was not unanimous – 28 out of 35 members of the Education and Science Employees Union's Council voted for the strike. It is currently unknown how many people could participate in the strike.
