Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas could not say at Thursday's government press conference how much teachers' salaries are to increase next year because, according to him, it depends on the final solution of several bills being processed at the moment, informs LETA.

"Teachers' salaries will most definitely increase and we have set a common goal of raising teachers' salaries to 120% of the average pay in four years. This means that teachers' salaries should increase substantially faster than average pay which is 5-6%," Roivas said.

According to the head of government, the concrete number of the pay rise for next year will depend on the adoption of some bills, for instance the private school law, which will be discussed next Friday.

According to Roivas he is quite optimistic that teachers' salaries will increase next year faster than average pay, but did not want to make any specific predictions.
