The wage fund of teachers and cultural, social, and internal security workers increased by 4% in Estonia

The Estonian Government decided to increase the wage fund of teachers, cultural workers, social workers, and internal security workers by 4% at its cabinet meeting Friday, government communication unit reports BC.

It is possible for the public sector as a whole to increase the wages at the expense of additional funds arising from the reduction in the number of its employees. The Government decided to reduce the number of public sector workers by 750 people over the next year.

The decrease in the number of civil servants follows the objective established in the coalition agreement to keep the number of public sector workers in compliance with the decline in the working-age population and increase the wages of cultural, educational, social, and internal security workers at a faster pace. At the same time, the reduction in the number of officials will save a total of 13 million euros in terms of government expenditure.

A total of 7.6 million euros was decided to be allocated to agricultural holdings as transitional allowance, of which three million will be already provided this year.

The Government is planning to invest nearly 75 million euros in buildings next year. This mainly includes the continuation of the construction or renovation of properties, decided at an earlier stage; for example, from cultural objects, the renovation of Ugala Teater SA and the extension of NUKU SA will be funded. Also, the construction of the new building of the Health Board will be continued with.

With regard to new objects, it was decided to finance the construction of Vändra and Vastseliina brigades, as well as the construction of the administrative building of the Seaplane Harbour and the Moscow Embassy building in 2016. It was also decided to start with the design of a new music and dance school building and finance the renovation of Pärnu stadium and the extension of Lilleküla stadium.
