Riga Construction Board orders five preschools shut down

BC, Riga, 13.01.2015.Print version
Riga Construction Board has ordered five private preschools in Riga to be shut down and another 16 to suspend operations due to various documents missing, as the board's representative Ilze Zuka told LETA.

The five preschools that must close due being located in unsuitable premises are "Skola mazajiem Poga" at 5 Unijas Street, "Mezaparka anglu pamatskola" at 33 Visbijas Prospect, "Montessori maja" at 9A-57 Kalnciema Street, "Maza Rasina" at 13 Paltmales Street, and "First Step" at 5 Zemgalu Street.

The Construction Board has informed the State Education Quality Service about its findings, requesting that the licenses for the said educational institutions be revoked as they had no permission to hold classes for children at the said locations.

Another sixteen preschools will have their operations suspended as they have not submitted all the necessary documents to the Construction Board.

The Construction Board notes that it visited all preschools in Riga, and 98 were asked to carry out certain improvements/upgrades, or present additional documents. Some preschools, however, were located in buildings not suited for teaching children – in former offices, factory buildings, or even warehouses.
