Dauksts: Russia could in the near future blacklist a political scientist or official from Latvia

BC, Riga, 26.11.2014.Print version
As retaliation for blacklisting Russian political Konstantin Simonov, Russia could in the near future blacklist a political scientists or official from Latvia in a tit-for-tat move, political observer Karlis Dauksts told LETA.

Asked about possible retaliatory measures, Dauksts said that Russia could include on its persona non grata list a political scientist or official from Latvia. ''I myself do not believe that it was necessary to expel Simonov from Latvia, as his comments where not really comparable to what many of the others included on Latvia's persona non grata list have said,'' Dauksts said.

''The Russian Foreign Ministry has already stated that this situation will not be left unanswered,'' Dauksts added.

As reported, Moscow will not leave the expulsion of Russia's leading political scientist Konstantin Simonov unanswered, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia announced Monday.

Simonov's deportation is "yet another confirmation of the Latvian authorities' duplicity," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.

"Moscow will not leave unnoticed the incident with the expulsion of the director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, from Latvia," he said.

Simonov was deported from Latvia on November 14. The decision to blacklist Simonov was taken by the Latvian interior minister.
