Russia's connection with the "Malaysia Airlines" passenger airplane crash in Ukraine has not yet been proven, thus it is too early to talk about new sanctions against Russia, "Itera Latvia" Director Juris Savickis said in an interview with the Latvian Television show "Rita panorama" today, informs LETA.

"If new sanctions are implemented against Russia, it will happen without any proof. And what will happen if we later find out that Russia has nothing to do with this catastrophe?" Savickis asked rhetorically.

Savickis disapproves of the sanctions and believes that disagreements should be solved political measures and negotiations.

Savickis believes that before pointing fingers at anyone, it is important to consider who would have benefitted from this catastrophe. He feels that Russia would not have gained any advantage, as it would be blamed for everything again.

In the meantime, Savickis is certain that sanctions and certain counter-actions will not affect gas supplies from Russia. He believes that Europe will not reject Russia's gas supplies, just as Russia is interested in selling its gas.

The European Union (EU) foreign ministers have ordered experts to assess the opportunities of imposing new sanctions against Russia by addressing the defense and finance sectors, Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans announced on Tuesday.

The EU also plans on imposing new traveling bans and asset freezes.
