Covid-19: Tallink, GoBus, Nordica assisting in bringing Estonians back home on Monday

BC, Tallinn, 16.03.2020.Print version
Three members of the Estonian Travel and Tourism Association -- the state-owned airline Nordica, shipper Tallink and bus company GoBus -- have announced that they will provide assistance in transporting Estonians back home from other European states on Monday evening, and are requesting for all those in need of transportation to make themselves known, writes LETA/BNS.

The Tallink vessel Megastar is to delay its departure from Helsinki until 11 p.m. on Monday evening to make sure Estonians arriving at Helsinki airport are able to make it back home. Tickets for the trip are sold at the harbor until 10:50 p.m.

GoBus is to help bring people back from Latvia, and an option also exists to bring home Estonians stranded in Lithuania. Those in need of transport are requested to make themselves known by calling +372 5564 5753.

"We have sent a bus to the Latvian-Lithuanian border to fetch anyone who's been stranded; we're returning via the main route, and can make intermediate stops along the way as well as go through Riga. The bus is large and seats plenty of people, so we can take on more passengers. If needed, you can hitchhike to get on the bus," Irene Sulger, head of sales at GoBus, said.

"The bus will depart from the Grenctale-Salociai border point near the Lithuanian-Latvian border from Latvia's side at around 3 a.m.," she added.

The Estonian state-owned airline Nordic Aviation Group AS with its subsidiary Xfly are likewise prepared to bring home Estonian nationals from European countries and their neighboring states. A flight ordered by private customers is set to depart from Spain in the near future. The possibility of transport depends on rules imposed by different states. To order a flight at private initiative, those in need are requested to send an email to [email protected] . Applications for support by the state are handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
