Presentation of the book "Latvia and Turkey: Distant and Near" took place in Ventspils on June 25, 2015 in the frames of the European Third-Country Nationals Integration Fund ‘s Project (Grant Agreement Nr. IF/2013/1.a/20).

The book "Latvia and Turkey: Distant and Near" was published in the amount of 1000 copies and it was used as a textbook (with 200 texts in Latvian, Russian, English and Turkish languages) for free Latvian language courses’ students, as well as it will be  presented to other participants of the project, delivered to schools and libraries of Latvia, municipal libraries, presented during the evening of national cultures  in June.

According to the research, children and young people instead of reading books prefer watching television programs and playing computer games. The recent British "The Guardian" newspaper’s survey has revealed the fact that during the year the number of children (from 15% to 30%) who do not read books at all significantly has been increased. Currently, the situation may be very similar or even worse, because reading for both children and adults is becoming increasingly unpopular. However, this trend has a significant effect on the level of literacy of children and youth: the more a child or student is involved in activities related to reading, the higher is his or her achievements.

Reading is very important and it enriches people. Reading in any language improves any person's taste and knowledge, his or her vocabulary, improves ability of imagination. However, in order to develop or improve a language, it is important to choose an appropriate content, which is a good example of the language. Currently, people read not only for fun and entertainment, but also for work or study.

The book "Latvia and Turkey Distant and Near" of the size A4 with the information about Latvia and Turkey and a dictionary at the end of the book, will help in learning the Latvian language or will improve the knowledge of this language to those who use it for their work, study or communication.
