Latvian and Romanian officials discuss Eastern Partnership

On 25 September in Riga, officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Romania held consultations on the Eastern Partnership. For the Latvian side, the consultations were chaired by the Head of the Bilateral Relations Directorate, Ambassador Einars Semanis, and Juris Poikāns, Ambassador-at-Large for the Eastern Partnership, informs Latvia MFA.

The Romanian delegation was headed by the Romanian Foreign Ministry’s Director General for Regional Relations, Razvan Rusu.

 

During these consultations, the issues of current importance in the purview of the European Neighbourhood Policy were discussed. Special attention was placed on the further development of the Eastern Partnership and the Eastern Partnership Summit that will take place next May in Riga.

 

Potential cooperation between Latvia and Romania during the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU was raised at the meeting, and the diplomats also reviewed recent regional developments, including the situation in Ukraine, EU-Russia relations, and the outlook for the EU’s relations with the countries of Central Asia.
