Nazarbayev to Estonian Ambassador: situation in Ukraine causes concerns

Estonia's new Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan Jaan Reinhold presented his credentials to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Tuesday; in the discussion that followed the ceremony, President Nazarbayev expressed concern over the situation in Ukraine, Public Broadcasting reports.

President Nazarbayev noted that Estonia is for Kazakhstan an important economic and political partner in the Baltic Sea region and expressed hope that the cooperation between the two countries becomes closer in the future. Nazarbayev pointed out environmental protection, energy, new technologies and logistics as cooperation spheres with great potential. The President of Kazakhstan was interested in the latest developments in Estonia.

 

The President stressed in his speech that the tensions in the Ukraine, the Middle East and elsewhere cause deep concern and escalation of the situation has to be avoided in finding solutions.

 

Ambassador Reinhold confirmed that cargo flows from Kazakhstan continue to be welcome in Estonian ports and railways. Reinhold also stressed the importance of cooperation opportunities in the IT field. The Ambassador said Kazakhstan's steps in the spheres of environmental protection and new energies in relation with the EXPO world exhibition taking place in Astana in 2017 deserve recognition.

 

Ambassador Jan Reinhold (born in 1970) joined the Foreign Service in 2003. From March 2011 until the work in Astana, Reinhold worked as Consul General in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. The Estonian Embassy in Kazakhstan in accredited also in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
