Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Unity), together with Foreign Minister of Iceland Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson and Foreign Minister of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski, met with Ukrainian President Poroshenko and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin yesterday.

Rinkevics emphasized Latvia's support for Ukraine. He said that "Ukraine's struggle for the future and independence of the country is our fight as well. In this challenging hour, we are together as one with the Ukrainian people." All three foreign ministers expressed support for the Ukrainian president's attempts to bring peace and stability to the eastern region of Ukraine. The ministers also expressed their support for Ukraine's progress toward reforms and European integration, where the EU and Ukraine Association Agreement would play a very important role.

Poroshenko sincerely thanked Latvia for the fast ratification of the EU Association Agreement. "These are critical and important days in Ukraine's history, and at this exact moment, we highly evaluate the support and solidarity that comes from our friends in Europe," Poroshenko said.

Rinkevics will continue his working visit in Ukraine today and tomorrow. Today he plans to hold several meetings in Kiev, where he will meet with representatives from the European Defense and Security Organization and the Ukrainian president's administration.

As reported, during an emergency meeting on July 14, Saeima ratified the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine.
